The Opportunity I Didn't Know I Needed
When people talk about becoming a Virtual Assistant, the conversation usually revolves around flexible work arrangements, earning in foreign currency, or the possibility of working from home. While those are certainly great benefits, my experience has shown me that being a VA can be much more than that. For me, it became an opportunity that significantly changed my life, not just financially, but personally as well.
I joined Dilaab Digitals around a year and a half ago, initially looking for an opportunity to earn while continuing to grow professionally. At the time, I didn't expect that a simple decision to become a VA would open so many doors. Today, I am fortunate to have celebrated more than a year working with Devon Pasha, while still maintaining a great relationship with my previous client, Rochelle Ramathe. Looking back, both have played an important role in my journey, and I remain grateful for the trust and support they have given me.
Finding People Who Believe In You
One of the biggest blessings of this experience was having clients who genuinely cared about my growth and well-being. During one of the most important periods of my life, my CPA board examination journey, I received understanding, encouragement, and flexibility that helped me balance both work and review.
Anyone who has prepared for a board exam knows how demanding it can be financially, mentally, and emotionally. There were days when I felt overwhelmed, but knowing that my clients and Dilaab Digitals believed in me gave me the confidence to keep going. Their support allowed me to continue pursuing my goals without constantly worrying about how I would sustain myself.
What stood out to me was that they never treated me as just another person on the team. They understood that I had goals outside of work and continuously encouraged me to pursue them. Having people who genuinely wanted to see me succeed made a huge difference during a period when I needed support the most.
The Freedom That Comes With Financial Independence
Beyond the professional experience, becoming a VA gave me a level of financial independence that I had never experienced before. For the first time, I was able to spend on things using money I earned through my own hard work. I could book plane tickets without having to rely on anyone else, travel when opportunities arose, and buy things that I wanted without feeling guilty.
More importantly, I was able to contribute more to my family, treat friends from time to time, and enjoy experiences that were once beyond my reach. These may seem like simple things, but they represented milestones that reminded me how far I had come. There is a different kind of fulfillment that comes from being able to support yourself and give back to the people who have supported you throughout your journey.
The financial stability that came with being a Virtual Assistant did not just improve my lifestyle. It gave me peace of mind and the confidence to make decisions knowing that I was capable of standing on my own.
Success Is Also About Experiences
One thing I did not expect from this journey was how many meaningful experiences it would allow me to have. Before becoming a VA, many of these experiences felt like luxuries that I would have to postpone for another day. Over time, however, I found myself creating memories that I once only imagined.
I was able to travel more, attend events that I genuinely enjoyed, and experience things that made life more exciting outside of work. As an SB19 fan, one of the highlights of my year was when Devon sponsored my SVIP ticket for their concert. It was an incredible experience, not just because of the concert itself, but because it reflected the kind of relationship we had built over time.
Moments like that reminded me that work is not only about earning a living. Sometimes it is also about finding people who celebrate your wins, appreciate your efforts, and encourage you to enjoy the things that make you happy. Those experiences are difficult to quantify, but they become some of the memories you treasure the most.
The Growth I Never Expected
Over time, I also noticed changes in myself that went far beyond financial gains. I became more confident in communicating with people from different backgrounds, more disciplined in managing my time, and more comfortable taking on responsibilities that once intimidated me.
Working with clients from different industries exposed me to new ideas, different ways of thinking, and opportunities to continuously improve my skills. Every project taught me something new. Every challenge pushed me to become better. The work challenged me professionally, but it also helped me become a more capable and confident person overall.
Looking back, I realize that the greatest value of my VA journey is not necessarily the income I earned. It is the person I became because of the opportunities I was given and the lessons I learned along the way.
For Every Aspiring Virtual Assistant
For aspiring Virtual Assistants, my story is not meant to suggest that success happens overnight. Like any career, becoming a VA requires effort, consistency, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. There will be challenges, difficult days, and moments when things do not go according to plan.
However, if you approach the opportunity with the right mindset and a commitment to growth, the rewards can extend far beyond a paycheck. The skills you develop, the relationships you build, and the experiences you gain can have a lasting impact on your life.
Many people enter the VA industry because they want a better source of income. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But keep yourself open to the possibility that this career can offer much more. Sometimes the biggest rewards are the opportunities, confidence, and personal growth that come along with the work.
A Heart Full of Gratitude
Looking back on the past year and a half, I realize that becoming a Virtual Assistant gave me much more than work. It gave me opportunities, financial independence, professional growth, meaningful experiences, and relationships with people who genuinely wanted to see me succeed. It allowed me to support myself during one of the most important chapters of my life, enjoy experiences I once considered luxuries, and build a future with greater confidence.
Most importantly, it showed me that life can change when the right opportunity meets the right support system. Dilaab Digitals gave me that opportunity. Devon Pasha and Rochelle Ramathe helped me maximize it. Together, they helped me create a version of my life that I am genuinely proud of today.
If there is one thing I have learned from this journey, it is that sometimes the opportunities that change our lives do not arrive with grand promises or dramatic moments. Sometimes they begin with a simple application, a single client, or a chance that you decide to take.
For me, that chance was becoming a Virtual Assistant.
A year and a half later, I can confidently say that it remains one of the best decisions I have ever made. And for that, I will always be grateful. 💛
